Delaware Nature Society (DelNature) celebrated today Governor John Carney’s State of the State announcement of a $50 million investment in clean water. Combined with House Bill 200, the Clean Water for Delaware Act, this funding will create a Clean Water Trust Fund to improve the quality of the state’s water supply and waterways. This new trust will also help all Delawareans, particularly those in low-income and traditionally underserved communities, to have access to healthy drinking water for generations to come.
“DelNature thanks the Governor, Representative Valerie Longhurst, and Senator Bryan Townsend for their leadership on this vital issue. This funding is a giant step forward in addressing Delaware’s clean water challenges,” said DelNature Advocacy Director Emily Knearl. “It represents the culmination of all the hard work and dedication of our more than 3,000 water warriors and 60 plus allied organizations that remain committed to ensuring clean water in one of the most challenging years in memory. We look forward to working with the Governor, and the General Assembly to ensure this funding becomes part of the final Bond Bill and smooth passage of House Bill 200.”
